Deep into a lifetime of making images, I live now, with my husband, Rufus Morison, and a cat named Alice, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of East Tennessee where I work from a studio in our home.
The images which call to me and insist on appearing over and over in my sketch books are those of houses and of the faces of people, and often the shapes of the mountains which surround us. In recent years I have limited my imagery almost exclusively to houses and humans in order to ponder the connections and the deep meaning and mystery of home and structure and dwelling.
Humans create shelter, and possibly the shelters in some measure create the humans who inhabit them. The work I have been producing for the past few years is made up of small acrylic paintings on board and of cut out human figures and miniature painted cardboard houses. The pieces move into various groupings and interactions as I watch and explore the many facets of house and home as it impacts the narrative of our lives.
